The Preamble: Soul of the Indian Constitution
The Preamble, based on Nehru's 'Objectives Resolution', is the soul of the Indian Constitution. Adopted on Nov 26, 1949, it declares India a Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, and Democratic Republic. It aims to secure Justice, Liberty, and Equality for all citizens and promote Fraternity. The Supreme Court, in the Kesavananda Bharati case, affirmed it as an integral, albeit non-justiciable, part of the Constitution, fundamental to its interpretation.
